The Floor Saver Glide® snap-on caps are designed to snap over glides with swivel bases which are approximately 1-1/4” in diameter. You can measure the diameter, or width across the base, with a vernier, a hole gage or by simply holding a ruler to the bottom of the base to estimate that the diameter is 1-1/4”. If your glide base is much smaller, for example less than 1” in diameter across the metal at the widest point, then these caps will not fit your glide. The overwhelming majority of glides in the field on school furniture are the standard size of approximately 1-1/4” in diameter and will work with these caps.
There are three popular styles of glide bases in school furniture- low-profile bases, mid-profile bases and deep-profile bases. The low-profile and mid-profile bases are typically found on furniture from the following furniture manufacturers:
The deep-profile bases are typically found on imported glides and are generally found on furniture from the following furniture manufacturers:
Regardless of the manufacturer, it is important to check the glides on your existing furniture to find out if they have low-profile, mid-profile or deep-profile bases. To assist you, please refer to the following picture which shows the three sizes, side by side.
Depending on the profile of your existing glides and how much the original base has worn, you should choose whichever cap, the deep or the low-profile, provides the best fit.
